Veinwave is a procedure designed to compliment Sclerotherapy which treats Varicose Veins, in order to treat smaller veins which Sclerotherapy cannot treat. It is ideal for the removal of very fine blood vessels known as Thread Veins - medically known as Teleangiectasia - and red spots formed by blood vessel growth - medically known as Hemangioma.
Veinwave is a process that uses Thermo-Coagulation which is based on high frequency waves which seal the thread vein walls which in turn eliminates them.
We have large and smaller veins which work by returning blood back to the heart. The smaller veins feed in and the larger veins have valves which break down and cause a backup of blood into the smaller veins. This, amongst environmental causes is what creates things such as thread veins.
A very fine needle is used to target each thread vein without causing damage to the outer skin.
Anyone over the age of 18 can have this treatment. However, treatment cannot go ahead if contra-indications are present such as skin infections, pregnancy, epilepsy, seizure disorders, pacemakers, aspirin users or individuals taking blood thinning medications.
Veinwave is ideal for treating spider veins which are symptoms of Rosacea, angioma, telangiectasia and thread veins.
You will need to come in for a consultation initially for me to have a detailed look at the skin and check that you are a suitable candidate.
You will be laying down, face up and I will remove any excess numbing cream before the treatment starts. During treatment there may some mild discomfort, particularly around the nose area. It is advisable to try and have treatment on a day you have no important commitments as although most people find the redness goes down quite quickly, this cannot be guaranteed.
At the end of treatment I will finish off with a Zinc Oxide product to help with any inflammation.
Dependant on the size of your treatment area, the average session is 15 minutes. The anaesthetic numbing cream is applied to the skin for around 30 to 60 minutes prior to treatment. The consultation fee is £20 and the treatment cost is £180 or £70 for one small isolated area.
Depending on the area being treated it generally takes 1-4 sessions every 4 weeks. No make-up should be worn to the treatment session.
Recovery time varies for each individual. You may find that you have hardly any redness at all or you may find that you have alot redness which may last on and off for up to 6 weeks. There may also be scabbing or scratch like marks which may appear but these will fade. It is extremely important to wear a high sunblock for the following weeks after treatment. You will be given a leaflet on aftercare before you leave.
There is no single cause for thread veins, however there are certain risk factors which contribute to the development of thread veins.
These include:
• Having oily skin
• Increasing age
• Too much sun exposure
• Excessive amounts of red wine
• Exposure to extreme wind or temperatures
All of these factors contribute to aggravate thread veins. They are also associated with Rosacea - a long term skin condition resulting in redness.
Results can be seen most often within 48 hours. The slight marks that are above the veins that have been zapped can remain for up to 6 weeks. Although it is non invasive and in some instances achieve instant results it is advised to not rely on one single treatment.
